Welcome to the very first edition of the Ex Cineribus Grimbergen Open Sparring & Fair Play Tournament — a new initiative celebrating the spirit of historical European martial arts through respectful, technical fencing in an open and community-driven environment.
This event combines two core formats:
An inclusive, low-pressure setting where fencers of all levels can engage in friendly, respectful exchanges. Whether you're new to sparring or a seasoned practitioner, this space is meant to foster learning, experimentation, and camaraderie. Protective gear is optional — control and mutual respect are not. Open Friendly Sparring without tournament pressure.
A structured, round-robin tournament focusing on controlled, technical fencing with minimal protective equipment. It’s self-refereed, honor-based, and built on fair play. Fencers are encouraged to value clarity and precision over brute force, and the format rewards not only skill but sportsmanship.
